Now That's What I Call Music! 31 was released on June 30, 2009. The album is the thirty-first edition of the (U.S.) Now series. It peaked at number 1, 2, 3 and 14 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA. The compilation includes four songs which reached the Billboard Hot 100: "Boom Boom Pow", "Right Round", "Poker Face" and "My Life Would Suck Without You".

The cover is inspired by the NOW 70 UK cover released in 2008, but the color outline was changed to a pink outline instead of a yellow one.
